Leaf mulch cages provide an alternative and additional collection method for fallen leaves in Autumn. Shandon Residents Association decided to create an online survey to ask if local residents would like to share their views on leaf cages. It has been running since 5 September 2023 and has been shared via street WhatsApp groups, Facebook and via the residents association newsletter and also at the 19 October 2023 AGM (and it it still open). So far there have been 50 responses to the survey.
Subsequently, Dublin City Council provided a free leaf cage and composting workshop in Mt Bernard Park with expert Craig Benton (aka Dr Compost) for Shandon Residents on 28 October which also provided the local area up to eight cages for use to see how they work out. The advice given was to place the cages in highly visible areas, especially for the first time trying them out. This is very helpful to prevent anti-social activity and dumping.
The responses to the survey are shown below and underneath those, the original survey is still open and accessible.
